FAQ

Questions at the table

Do I need a separate account?

No. Sign in with the same email you use on DND Cards. Your campaigns and cards are shared.

Is DND Chat replacing DND Cards?

No. DND Cards is the grimoire — boards, cards, PDF shredding, and deck editing. DND War is the tactical battlemap. DND Chat is the table for chat, dice, Autopilot DM, and session planning. Same account across the family.

How do dice rolls work?

Use /roll 1d20+5, the Roll menu in the composer (die pool + bonus stepper), or the dice tray. Rolls are computed server-side, stored in roll_events, and can play a cinematic d20 cast when 3D dice are on.

Can players see monster AC and HP in chat?

No. Card embeds filter secret stat labels server-side for players. DMs see full stats and can switch to player preview locally.

How do I conjure a monster card?

Type /summon goblin (or any card title in your campaign). The card must exist on your DND Cards board first.

Can an AI really run my game?

The Autopilot DMcan. It's live, and it runs on Mana (◈): you get a free daily allowance of AI actions, then each turn past it spends a little Mana. Import a module PDF or build scenes in the Campaign Builder, then start a session. The AI narrates, reacts to what your party says, calls for ability checks with DCs, runs combat with audited monster attacks, and can advance the story asynchronously while you're offline. Ask the Campaign Oracle (✦ in the header) to recall names and plot threads. The human DM keeps full override: pause, resume, or take the chair back mid-scene. Pro lifts the free limits and refills Mana every month.

Can I run more than one character?

Yes. Each player can have up to 4 active characters in a campaign — pick your primary with the crown badge and switch seats from the character picker without leaving the tavern.

Where is the full character sheet?

Open your sheet from the tavern sidebar — the full @dnd/character-builder sheet renders in-chat (inventory, gear, abilities). Edit cards and deck art on DND Cards; play from DND Chat.

Where does my starting equipment come from?

The character builder includes RAW starting equipment for every class — choose your loadout or roll for gold instead. Background kits are included down to the trinket, and the whole kit lands in your campaign inventory as painted item cards when the character is created.

Is it free?

Core chat, dice, and conjures come with your shared DND Cards account at no extra cost. AI features like the Autopilot DM and session recaps run on Mana (◈): you get a free daily allowance, then they spend Mana. Signing up grants you 15 Mana to start. Pro (Adept or Archmage) refills Mana every month and lifts your free daily limits.

Can players use it on mobile?

Yes. The tavern and chat are mobile-friendly; we are actively polishing the phone-at-the-table layout.
